It’s the season of giving and what better way than to give back to children in need?
As families worldwide celebrate the holiday season, I had the opportunity to join my client, Hasbro, one of the world’s largest toy, game and entertainment experience companies, to help ensure that children in need also got to experience the joy of Christmas.
The 15th of December Hasbro hosted its third annual Global Day of Joy – a day when Hasbro empowers all 5,000 of its employees to become ‘elves’ and engage in community service projects in 40 different countries.
As part of the Global Day of Joy initiative, we visited the Tumelo Children Centre in Ivory Park to spread some much needed festive cheer. The team, together with Santa (a.k.a my drummer-boy) distributed individually selected gifts, sponsored by Hasbro, to each child. We also served hot dogs as lunch and the rest of the visit was dedicated to the important business of playing games.
Hasbro believes that every child is born with the sparkle of hope in their eyes and sometimes, because of life’s challenges, that hope has been diminished. Therefore, it is Hasbro’s mission to assist these children in triumphing over their critical life obstacles and to bring the joy of play into their lives.
It’s an amazing feeling when you see the impact you made in the lives of these children just by helping add some joy during the festive season.
The Tumelo Children Centre was established in 1996 in Ivory Park in the city of Johannesburg South Africa and the home caters for children with physical and mental disabilities that range from mentally handicapped/retarded, orphaned, abused, abandoned or brought in by police. Currently the Centre accommodates more than 40 children under the age of 16.
